DANC 1500R, Jazz Dance I

Course Description
A beginning jazz dance class for students interested in acquiring skills in jazz dance. This class is to instruct students in the basics of jazz dance technique and to encourage a basic understanding and appreciation of jazz dance history through the current time. Elective credit. This course is a prerequisite to DANC 2500.

Course Objectives

  1. Gain a fundamental understanding of the technical aspects of jazz dance.
  2. Learn beginning jazz techniques and stretching exercises to develop flexibility, endurance, strength, and coordination.
  3. Learn qualitative movement phrases and combinations in different styles of jazz including lyrical, contemporary, Broadway, and/or classical jazz.
  4. Experience and appreciate the rhythmic and stylistic artistry of jazz dance.
