DANC 2221R, Pointe I

(1.0 Credits) Course Description A beginning Pointe technique course for students with an emphasis in dance and for all students interested in developing Pointe skills. This class introduces the fundamentals of Pointe work through strengthening and articulation of the feet. Students who successfully complete this course will have beginning Pointe technique skills and be able to execute a simple variation en Pointe. Prerequisite: Dance 2100/3100 or instructor permission. Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Perform beginning ballet exercises en pointe with correct technique and alignment.
  2. Examine and discuss the history, difficulty, and beauty of dancing en pointe.
  3. Perform beginning combinations en pointe with artistic expression in class and on stage.
  4. Acquire skills of responsibility and Grit as they relate to a career in the dance field.
