October 2018 is proving to be an eventful month for the DSU Dance Program as it recently hosted master classes taught by dancers from Repertory Dance Theatre as well as dancers who were finishing up the most recent season at Tuachan Center for the Arts. Additionally the program will host a scholarship audition/master class for Florence Summer Dance 2019 with Liliana Condotti.
On Thursday, October 18th, 2018 Repertory Dance Theatre dancers Ursula Perry and Dan Higgins spent the afternoon teaching DSU dancers a ballet technique class and a modern dance class. “She provided some great imagery in terms of thinking about alignment,” said freshman dancer Amelia Day of Perry’s instruction. The Mission of Repertory Dance Theatre states that the company “is dedicated to the creation, performance, perpetuation, and appreciation of modern. Based out of Salt Lake City, RDT is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful repertory dance companies.
The following Friday, October 19th, 2018, the DSU Dance Program hosted 2 more modern dance master classes taught by Avree Walker, and assisted by Cyndal Gilmore. Walker taught classes based in Lester Horton technique, and students described these classes as both challenging and inspiring. Walker is a Las Vegas based professional artist who has previously worked with the Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theatre and is currently a cast member in Vegas! The Show, at Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip.
On Friday, October 26th, 2018 the DSU Dance Program hosted a scholarship audition/master class with Liliana Condotti of AlambradoDanza. The audition was for Florence Summer Dance 2019, set in Florence, Italy. A goal of this summer dance intensive is “ to develop well-rounded dancers through exposure to a variety of disciplines, with an emphasis on modern and contemporary dance.
